Taking care with crash barrier corners

Safety is important on roads, in workplaces, and in all kinds of public spaces. A number of things can help to improve conditions in these settings. One of the most important is the crash barrier. The barriers can prevent out of control vehicles from colliding with others and pedestrians. They can offer fall protection and help to preserve buildings as well as infrastructure.

Each barrier should be bespoke to suit the setting. That means choosing a layout that works and maximises protection. One of the trickiest things here is deciding what to do with corners. You may find you need to design the barrier so they can effectively go around a corner to maintain protection.

External corners

One of the options here is to choose external corners. This is where two sections of barrier meet to create a protruding point. The manufacturer will weld the pieces together to make a strong, durable joint.

Internal corners

A second option is to choose internal corners. These are the opposite way around, meaning there is no protruding point on the face of the barrier. Instead this point is on the opposite side.

Choosing

It is important to consider what type of corner will be safest for your needs. The thing to keep in mind is that the external ones will mean the point is outwards so it faces vehicles. This could create a hazard when they are turning corners. However, the other style will mean the point could face any pedestrians on the other side of the barrier. As a result you need to think about the risk to them.
